Mother Teresa:
Mother Teresa, Albanian Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu; (August 26, 1910 – September 5Th, 1997)
The human family along with its history allows us to encounter in our lifetime, a true champion, dignify by offering its very soul and energy without reservation to fellow man. This gift given to us comes along every few generations to remain us of the qualities our genetic makeup we all carried within ourselves is capable of; in recent history we find Muhammad Gandhi and Martin Luther King with such dedication. Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun who founded the Mission of charity in Kolkata (Calcutta), India in 1950. |
For over forty years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying while guiding the Missionaries of Charity's expansion; first throughout India and then in other countries. One cannot grasp to what extend she gave and the true love she demonstrated by taken into her arms those unwanted fellow human beings, but one can be certain that they saw God before they took their last breath.
By the 1970s she had become internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless, due in part to a documentary, and book, Something Beautiful for God by Malcolm Muggeridge. By the 1980s and 90s she had become a walking amongst us saint dedicated to soothe in any way she could, the poor, sick, dying and every living thing who was within her reach. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work. Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity continued to expand, and at the time of her death it was operating 610 missions in 123 countries, including hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, soup kitchens, children's and family counseling programs, orphanages, and schools.
The entire global award she received is the testament and appreciation we have for her work and is worth mentioning that it really is true that great things come in small packages. After her death she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and given the title blessed Teresa of Calcutta. A deservedly, appropriate name for a person with such qualities and humble life. Today she has become a champion of those in need all over the world and iconic in her own way seared in the pages of human history.
It is impossible to express via eloquent words what she represents, today many millions of followers whom pray every day to Mother Teresa. It is the reason why she has become my favorite subject and in every picture I try to interpret a pensive, focused and God like facial expression. Those of us so lucky to have lived in a parallel time and period could only watch the way she so gallantly received every award and every visit to world dignitaries but never ignoring or waiting for the time to take care of those dyeing with cancer, leprosy and many other decease, we are fortunate and privileged to have shared the days with Mother Teresa. And the best way to honor such iconic figure is that we make sure to pass on to future generations all that Mother Teresa stands for with such angelical figure.
